“Destiny” came to Harmony House close to one year ago, and so much life has happened in this short 10 months; literal life.
After Destiny’s dad died of cancer a year earlier, she was all of a sudden displaced, alone, and no place to call home. Destiny found Transitional Youth and started the process of applying to the program. Shortly after that, something unthinkable happened; Destiny found out she too had stage 4 cancer.
All of a sudden Destiny was thrown into a whirlwind of fear and despair as she grappled with the path ahead. Watching her dad very recently walk through this devastating disease, she had an understanding of the difficulties. Not wanting to place any “burden” on the staff at Harmony, at that point, strangers, she withdrew her application.
Our team believed God brought Destiny to us for a reason, and so we began to pray. We prayed for her healing, for her salvation, for a safe place to walk through treatment, and a place she would be cared for and loved.
One month later, Destiny reached out again. Feeling like she had no other choice she courageously stepped into the unknown and moved into Harmony.
The months ahead we all navigated uncharted territory. We have worked with youth from so many backgrounds, wounds, traumas, and life experiences. But we had never walked this kind of journey with a young person before.
Relying on Jesus every step of the way, the journey began. Moving in, settling into a home, her own room, family meals at the table, prayers and devotions together, building trust, laughter, tears, and all the little moments of life along the way.
Then came doctor’s appointments, tests, and more tests, treatment, sickness, good days and terrible days, hospital stays, days, and even weeks at a time. Our team wrapped their arms, hearts
and prayers around this precious young woman. They sat beside her at home and they stood beside her at the hospital. They became “home” to a young homeless girl who needed protection, safety, peace, rest, prayer, and simply to be loved.
The days, weeks, and months passed. Hopes and prayers for healing never left sight. God is faithful. His plans for Destiny are good, even in all the hardest stuff.
Destiny went for her last treatment recently. She has learned of the faithfulness of God, and has chosen to follow Him as her Lord and Savior. As Destiny steps into the next chapter of her life, she is entering it cancer free! Destiny is cancer free!
There are no amount of words that could adequately express the depth of God’s love for these precious young people and the honor it is to serve them, love them, pray for them, and witness God’s miracle working power in their lives.
God bless you for investing in this journey with us!
